Testimonials

From my first day with Kayani, I felt an incredible sense of unity—everyone was supportive and compassionate. What inspired me most was our focus on previously detained Palestinian women, a cause that sparked my own goal to advocate for them. Through Kayani, I’ve deepened my knowledge, strengthened my voice, and found the confidence to speak up for marginalized women.

Three months flew by, and I never wanted this project to end. I grew, learned, and found my voice as a journalist. Inspired by the resilience of women, I’ll keep fighting, learning, and standing up for change—because this journey is just the beginning.

I’m Petra Rafeh, a social worker and animal lover. I mentored at Kayani, where I supported my mentee with both her studies and emotional well-being. Though I’m no longer part of the program, I’m grateful for the experience. I believe that sharing knowledge helps us grow, and as I always say, “Helping others is what makes us human.”

I joined the Kayani project because of my passion for women’s issues, especially concerning Palestinian women. Kayani was one of the first to highlight the struggles of previously detained women, focusing on their psychological and social challenges. Through this project, I connected with others who share the same passion, deepening my commitment to supporting these women in the camp.

The Kayani project is one that has impacted me the most, benefiting me both personally and socially. I learned how to advocate for women’s rights and amplify the voices of marginalized women who are role models for society. I also gained insights into social identities, communication, and the importance of ethics. This journey has sparked my commitment to defend not only women but myself as well.

Forsa transformed me into a more active and confident journalist. With my teammate, I won first place in a media competition, and my mentor’s support inspired me to start my own project. Forsa helped me grow, and I encourage everyone to seize this opportunity!

My participation in the Kayani project has been one of my greatest experiences. It opened my eyes to the realities of previously detained women, before, during, and after their experiences. I now feel confident in conveying their stories accurately and with care. Through my writing, I can also highlight the struggles and challenges faced by Palestinian women in my own camp.

My experience with the Kayani project taught me the importance of addressing the needs of women in camps, helping them reintegrate and rehabilitate both psychologically and socially, as they play a vital role in rebuilding society. Palestinian women must empower themselves and each other despite all the challenges they face. Kayani also showed me how to collaborate with women who have experienced violence and how to support them in overcoming their past, empowering them to protect themselves.

My experience with Kayani has been life-changing. Meeting Manal Makkieh inspired me to be determined and ambitious. Through Kayani, we’ve shared real, anonymous stories from women in Palestinian refugee camps. As a Palestinian refugee myself, I feel the injustice women face, and my mission is to defend them through writing. With the support of my colleagues, we’ve learned to work in solidarity, addressing women’s issues without judgment and sharing their voices with the world.
